Primary schools across Andover and the surrounding villages are being invited to take part in a free live and interactive webinar this month to celebrate World Toilet Day – exploring what really happens after we flush.

Hosted by Southern Water’s Education Team, the online event will be streamed live from the company’s brand-new Education Centre at Budds Farm Wastewater Treatment Works in Hampshire on Wednesday 19 November.
The 30-minute session will take pupils behind the scenes of wastewater treatment, showing how water is cleaned, recycled and safely returned to the environment. It’s designed to support classroom learning in science, geography, and environmental studies, with plenty of fun facts to keep younger pupils engaged.
A fun, educational session for local schools
Schools in Andover, Charlton, Picket Twenty, Smannell, Enham Alamein, Abbotts Ann and nearby villages are encouraged to register. The webinar can be watched from classrooms or in school assemblies, giving pupils a unique opportunity to explore the hidden world of wastewater management without leaving the classroom.
The session also includes a virtual preview of Southern Water’s Beyond the Drain experience – a new free tour of the Budds Farm Education Centre that will be available to schools and community groups from January 2026.
Why World Toilet Day matters
World Toilet Day is held every year on 19 November as part of a global effort to raise awareness about the importance of safe sanitation and clean water. It’s been recognised as an official United Nations observance since 2013, highlighting how vital sanitation systems are to health, dignity, and the environment.
A Southern Water spokesperson said:
“This event is a brilliant opportunity for schools to inspire young people about the science of sanitation — how we manage wastewater, protect nature and ensure clean water for everyone. We’re excited to share a sneak peek of our new Education Centre and to help pupils see how important water really is.”
