Big Band Buffet brings community together for another fantastic year

The Big Band Buffet returned to Danebury School in Stockbridge on Saturday, 29 March, bringing together over-55s from across the borough for an afternoon of great food, music, company, and valuable advice from local organisations.

The free event, hosted by Test Valley Borough Council and ably compered by Dave Trowbridge, saw guests enjoy a delicious selection of food, tea, and coffee whilst listening to the Clive Fortune Big Band and singers lively swing and jazz classics. As the music filled the hall and created a fantastic atmosphere, the event also served an important purpose—providing practical support and information from a range of organisations across the borough.

There were talks from Southern Health Falls Prevention Team and TVBC’s Animal Welfare Officer, whilst I Can Therapy provided a taster of what they can offer and got everyone moving in their seats with some gentle exercises.

In addition, Scottish and Southern Electricity Network, Age UK, Citizens Advice, Andover Older People’s Forum, Men’s Shed, Fire Service and Romsey Dementia Action Group were on hand to offer guidance on everything from independent living to community activities, helping attendees stay safe, active, and connected.

The Worshipful the Mayor of Test Valley, Councillor Ian Jeffrey, said; “The Big Band Buffet is always a fantastic occasion, and this year was no exception. A huge thank you to everyone who made it possible—from the brilliant band to all the organisations who shared their expertise, and of course, the volunteers behind the scenes.

“It’s wonderful to see so many new and familiar faces coming together to enjoy good food, great music, and even better company. But more importantly, events like this provide a vital link between residents and the support services available to them, ensuring they have access to advice that helps them live independently. It is a shining example of how we can bring people together while offering real, practical support.”

The Big Band Buffet continues to be a much-loved part of Test Valley’s community calendar and continues to demonstrate the importance of bringing people together.
