Body Found in Search for Missing Soldier Alex Cairnie

Wiltshire Police have confirmed this evening that a body has been found during the search for missing soldier, Sergeant Alex Cairnie, near Warren Hill. The discovery was made around 6pm today (Tuesday 8th July).

Alex, 30, a serving member of the Queen’s Royal Hussars regiment, was last seen leaving Tidworth Camp at around 11am on Sunday, 6th July. He was reported missing later that day, prompting a major multi-agency search involving hundreds of military personnel, police officers, drones, police dogs, and Wiltshire Search and Rescue teams.

Formal identification has not yet taken place, but it is believed the body is that of Alex. His next of kin have been informed.

Detective Inspector Mark Kent said:

“Our thoughts are very much with the family and loved ones of Alex at this extremely difficult time. I would like to thank all those involved in the search efforts to locate him.”

There are no suspicious circumstances, and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

Earlier in the search, Wiltshire Police had released CCTV footage of Alex walking around Tesco in Tidworth on the morning he disappeared. He was wearing a grey sweatshirt and dark grey outdoor trousers with black knee patches.
