Celebrations as Enham Village Shop Hits 21 Years with Leslie and Tim

A cherished village shop and post office in Enham Alamein is marking a significant milestone, with its long-standing proprietors celebrating 21 years at the helm.

Leslie Francis and her partner, Tim, who run Enham Shop and Post Office, have reached just over two decades of service to the community. The pair took on the business in the early 2000s, continuing the legacy of a store that has supported local residents for more than 100 years. The post office itself has been in operation since 1901.

To mark the anniversary, Leslie expressed her gratitude to everyone who has visited and supported them throughout their tenure. Tim also thanked customers for their ongoing loyalty and for the many friendships made along the way.

The shop is known for stocking an extensive range of everyday essentials, from groceries and newspapers to a selection of locally produced goods. Its shelves feature handmade pies, scotch eggs, quiches, pâtés and cakes, alongside locally sourced meat, free-range eggs, freshly baked breads and pastries.

The post office continues to be a vital resource for the village, offering a seven-day-a-week parcel service as well as email and photocopying facilities, utility top-ups, Euros and travel insurance.

This landmark anniversary follows an already exceptional year for the business. Earlier in 2025, the SPAR-run store and post office was named Best Village Shop & Post Office at the Countryside Alliance Awards, which highlight excellence in rural retail and community contribution. Judges described the shop as a “cornerstone of the community”, praising its support for local producers, its welcoming atmosphere, and its dependable service.

Reflecting on the award, Leslie said the recognition meant a great deal: “We really felt it was important to take up the mantle when we were nominated because our amazing customers had taken the time to put us forward for the award. We’ve had overwhelming support from the whole village.”

With a reputation built on kindness, creativity and unwavering community spirit, Enham Village Post Office & Stores continues to show how small rural shops can play a big part in village life — and why it remains so treasured 21 years on.
