Children Create Cosy Bug Hotels in Harmony Woods Easter Workshop

Nature, creativity and community spirit came together in Harmony Woods on Wednesday 16 April, as a group of children and families took part in a wholesome Easter-themed bug hotel workshop.

The event marked the first time that Matt and Natalia led a session independently, and their debut was a hit with the families in attendance.

The morning began with a nature-based scavenger hunt, where children searched the woodland floor for feathers, leaves, twigs and daisies to use in their creations. Parents joined in the fun while soaking up the peaceful woodland surroundings.

After the materials were gathered, everyone paused for a well-earned refreshments break. While parents enjoyed a warm drink, children tucked into traditional hot cross buns and biscuits. Matt also took on the role of “Chief Supporting Officer of the Easter Bunny” and delighted everyone with a surprise chocolate treat for each child.

The group then enjoyed a lively storytelling session. Natalia gave an animated retelling of the much-loved tale Stick Man, while Matt brought the story to life with a performance that had both children and grown-ups laughing.

With the sun shining through the trees, it was time to build the bug hotels. Using bamboo sticks and their gathered natural materials, families teamed up to build unique insect hideaways. The fiddly nature of the build was a fun challenge for little fingers, and the activity was filled with laughter and teamwork.

Organisers thanked all the families who came along and gave special praise to Matt and Natalia for running the session with such enthusiasm and care. The handmade bug hotels will now remain in Harmony Woods as homes for mini beasts – a lasting reminder of a joyful spring day in nature.
