Preparations are underway for the demolition of the former Tesco building in Andover town centre, marking a major milestone in the town’s regeneration plans.

Contractors have been on site this week getting ready to take down the long-vacant building. The site will be transformed into a modern town theatre, which is due to open in December 2027.
The new venue is part of the wider town centre redevelopment project aimed at bringing more culture, footfall and opportunity into the heart of Andover. Once complete, the theatre is expected to host live performances, cinema screenings, community events and more.
The old Tesco building has stood empty for several years and is seen by many as a symbol of the town’s need for revitalisation. Local residents and businesses have welcomed news that progress is finally being made.
One shop owner said:
“It’s great to see something finally happening. The theatre will give people a reason to come into town again.”
The demolition phase is expected to take several months. Further updates will be provided as the project progresses.
