A dispersal order has been introduced in Andover Town Centre following reports of anti-social behaviour in the area.
Police confirmed the order was implemented at 4.00 pm on Tuesday 23 December, using powers under Section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. It will remain in force until 4.00 pm on Thursday 25 December.
The order covers a designated area of the town centre and gives officers the power to direct individuals to leave the area and prevent them from returning for the duration of the order. Failing to comply is a criminal offence and could result in arrest.
The Andover Neighbourhood Policing Team, supported by Response Teams, has increased patrols in response to reports of anti-social behaviour, shoplifting and disorder. Officers carried out patrols on Tuesday evening and will continue to maintain a visible presence while the dispersal order remains in place.
Police are encouraging residents and businesses who have concerns, or who may have witnessed incidents, to speak to officers on patrol or contact police on 101 with any relevant information.
Police have said they remain committed to tackling anti-social behaviour in Andover Town Centre and will continue to monitor the situation to help keep the area safe for residents, businesses and visitors.
