Dive into a New Story! Free Books at Tea Leaves & Reads for World Book Day

World Book Day® 2025 will take place on Thursday, 6th March, and Tea Leaves & Reads is once again supporting the charity’s mission to encourage all children to develop a love of reading and have access to books.

To mark the occasion, the independent bookshop at The Fairground, Weyhill, is inviting children to exchange their £1/€1.50 World Book Day token for a free World Book Day book. This offer will be available from 13th February until 23rd March, giving families plenty of time to take part.

In addition to the book giveaway, Tea Leaves & Reads will also have the brand-new 2025 World Book Day pin badges in store. Visitors to the bookshop can enjoy a relaxed browsing experience, with plenty of free parking available at The Fairground. The site is also home to several other independent businesses and a café, making it an ideal destination for a family visit.

About World Book Day

World Book Day® is a global initiative dedicated to transforming lives through reading. Designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books, the event is marked in over 100 countries. The charity’s mission is to encourage reading for pleasure and ensure that every child and young person has access to a book of their own. Research has shown that reading for pleasure is the strongest indicator of a child’s future success, even more so than their family background or income.

Each year, 32 million World Book Day tokens are distributed through schools, magazines, and partners, allowing children to claim a free book or receive £1/€1.50 off any book or audiobook priced at £2.99/€3.99 or more. For 25% of children receiving Free School Meals, the World Book Day book is often the first they own, highlighting the vital role the initiative plays in improving literacy.

The theme for 2025 is Read Your Way, encouraging children to explore reading on their own terms and discover books they enjoy.
