Gallery: Andover Turns Out in Force for Armed Forces Day Celebration

Vigo Park was brimming with pride and energy on Saturday as crowds turned out in force to celebrate Andover Armed Forces Day. The day began with a poignant flag-raising ceremony, setting the tone for an event packed with entertainment, camaraderie, and community spirit.

Live performances lit up the main stage throughout the day, while the arena hosted a range of displays and activities for all ages to enjoy. One of the major highlights came in the form of the Armed Forces Day Strongman Competition, where four contestants competed on behalf of four different charities.

The physical challenges were as intense as they were inspiring — car pulls, tyre flips, and the gruelling farmer’s walk tested both strength and stamina. Each contestant battled it out not just for bragging rights, but for a worthy cause.

A special mention goes to Graeme Patrick, a former Army veteran and the nominated strongman for local charity Finding Freedom From Abuse. Stepping in at the last minute to represent the charity, Graeme demonstrated remarkable determination and grit. His efforts paid off — Graeme emerged victorious, winning the contest and securing a £500 prize for Finding Freedom, which will help support survivors of domestic abuse.

The charity expressed heartfelt thanks to Graeme for making their participation possible. “It was a powerful show of unity, strength, and community spirit,” they said. “Every cheer, every rep, and every act of support made a real difference.”

Andover Armed Forces Day proved once again how deeply the town values its servicemen and women — past and present — and showcased the very best of local spirit.

While the event was a success overall, some attendees noticed fewer Armed Forces equipment displays than in previous years. Organisers acknowledged the drop and say they are already planning to expand the offering next year. They are urging anyone who feels the day could be even better to get involved and volunteer — helping shape an even bigger and better Armed Forces Day for 2026.
