High-speed police chase leads to unexpected puppy rescue

A high-speed police pursuit has led to the unexpected rescue of a small Shar-pei puppy, alongside the arrest of a 27-year-old woman.

The incident took place on Monday 13 April, when officers from Hampshire Constabulary began a chase after a driver failed to stop near Whitchurch. The vehicle was reported to have been driven dangerously at high speed for around 10 minutes before being brought to a stop on the A339 near Newbury.

Following the stop, officers carried out a search of the vehicle for drugs. During the search, they found more than they were expecting.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said:
“After searching the vehicle for drugs, officers made an unexpected discovery. A very small Shar-pei puppy was found inside.”

The “sweet, maybe slightly scared” puppy has since been nicknamed “Chase” by officers, and enquiries are ongoing to establish its ownership and ensure its welfare.

A 27-year-old woman from Gosport was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, possession of cocaine and cannabis, and drug driving after failing a roadside drug wipe. She has since been released pending further investigation and laboratory analysis.
