Local Fundraisers Step Up in May to Support Hospice Care

A wide range of generous individuals and organisations from across the Andover area have come together this month to raise vital funds for the Countess of Brecknock Hospice (CoBH), supporting its continued work with patients and families in need of care.

From marathon runs to community raffles, May has seen inspiring efforts from supporters new and old, helping to raise both awareness and money for the charity.

Highlights from this month’s fundraising:

  • Knitted Easter Chick sales, organised by long-time supporter Sheila, raised nearly £500. The chicks were filled with Creme Eggs kindly donated by Leigh Williams Windows Ltd.
  • Staff at Tesco, River Way in Andover held a colleague-only sale of discounted end-of-line stock, raising a fantastic £1,160.
  • The Eagles Skittle League hosted a skittles and curry night, raising over £700 and inviting hospice staff to join in the fun.
  • Residents at Chantry Lodge made a thoughtful donation of £113 following a presentation from the hospice’s charity team.
  • The Dance Mode show, led by Donna Meagre, raised £803 through an energetic and well-attended performance.
  • Little London & Smannell Parish Council’s VE Day raffle added a further £61 to the hospice’s fundraising efforts.
  • The Wednesday lunch club at Andover Methodist Church contributed £45.50, showing how even small gatherings can make a meaningful impact.
  • A special shout-out to Tom Butler, who completed the Paris Marathon in memory of his godfather, raising over £5,000 in sponsorship.
  • Local software firm Montala Ltd, based in Newbury but with strong links to the area, generously donated £1,770 – representing 10% of their profits – as part of their commitment to supporting charities as a 100% employee-owned company.

A spokesperson for CoBH said:
