A growing women’s football initiative in Andover is calling on more local women to lace up their boots and join a movement that’s changing lives — one kick at a time.
‘Kick Out The Stigma – Andover’ offers fun, friendly football sessions aimed at promoting positive mental health, confidence, and connection. Open to women of all ages and abilities, the group now hosts two weekly sessions at Charlton Astro: Mondays from 7–8pm and Tuesdays from 8–9pm.

The sessions are about more than just sport — they provide a supportive space for women to unwind, build friendships, and improve their wellbeing.
“It’s more than just a kickabout,” said one regular participant. “We’ve formed friendships, built confidence, and supported each other both on and off the pitch.”
At just £3 per session, the initiative is not only affordable but also welcoming to beginners, returners to the game, and anyone simply looking for a way to de-stress and have fun. Many women who joined “just to give it a go” now attend weekly, finding themselves part of a community that lifts each other up.
In addition to the weekly sessions, players also have the chance to take part in friendlies and tournaments, further building camaraderie and confidence. The sessions are proudly inclusive, with no experience or fitness level required.
The women’s sessions follow the continued success of Kick Out The Stigma’s men’s group, which has gone from strength to strength over recent years. Many men have benefited both physically and mentally from being involved, and the group regularly plays matches against other teams while also raising money and awareness for Andover Mind, a local mental health charity.
