Man Charged Following Burglary Investigations in Stockbridge and Littleton

A 49-year-old man has been charged with a number of offences following investigations into burglaries in Stockbridge and Littleton.

Police were first called after a handbag was reported stolen from a property on Deane Down Drove in Littleton on 31 March. Following the burglary, a stolen bank card was used to withdraw £200 from the ATM outside Tesco Express on Priors Dean Road in Winchester.

A second report was received after a handbag was stolen from an address in Nelson Close, Stockbridge, on 1 June. An attempt was subsequently made to use a bank card at the same Winchester cash machine.

Officers launched an investigation into both incidents and made an arrest after stopping a vehicle in Chandler’s Ford on 8 June.

David Wells, 49, of no fixed abode, has since been charged with two counts of burglary dwelling and theft, two counts of fraud by false representation, driving whilst disqualified, and using a motor vehicle on a road without third-party insurance.

Wells is due to appear before Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court today (9 June).

Police enquiries into the incidents remain ongoing.
