Mayoral Charity Dinner Raises Over £2,000 for Local Charities

Saturday night in Andover was a celebration of elegance and philanthropy, as the much-anticipated Mayoral Charity Dinner took centre stage. The event, hosted by Cllr Phil Lashbrook, The Worshipful Mayor of Test Valley, and Cllr Linda Lashbrook, Mayoress, attracted a vibrant crowd eager to partake in the glamour, live music, casino games, awards, and a raffle.

Graham North, an enthusiastic and dynamic auctioneer, helped to keep the energy high throughout the evening, as the mayoral couple led the charge in raising over £2,000 for their chosen charities: The Enham Trust, Countess of Brecknock Hospice, and Test Valley Scouts. Local businesses contributed to the success of the event by generously donating prizes and experiences for the raffle and auction, showing the community’s unwavering support for charitable causes.

The theme for the evening was ‘glitz and glamour Oscar night’, inspiring guests to don their finest attire, adding a touch of Hollywood to the event. The atmosphere was sophisticated yet inviting, setting the stage for a memorable night. The evening began with a warm welcome drink, followed by a sumptuous three-course meal, accompanied by a selection of fine wines. The attentive waitstaff and dedicated committee members ensured that everything ran smoothly, allowing guests to relax and enjoy the festivities.

The energy was palpable as guests participated in various games, including a balloon race, heads and tails, and a lively coin toss aimed at landing closest to a bottle of prosecco. The casino tables, featuring blackjack and craps, brought even more excitement, with shrieks of delight and disappointment filling the air as guests tested their luck. The Vinyl Beats, the live band for the night, kept the dance floor buzzing, ensuring that the party continued until carriages arrived at midnight.

The event was a resounding success, raising significant funds for worthy causes. The Mayor expressed his gratitude to everyone involved, remarking on how much he and his guests enjoyed the evening. Samantha Jankowski, a member of the committee team, shared her thoughts on the event’s success: “It’s been a privilege to volunteer to organize this event and work with our committee. Cllr Phil Lashbrook, The Worshipful Mayor, and Cllr Linda Lashbrook, Mayoress, support and attend so many events, so to be able to put on an evening for them and raise money for charity has been amazing.”

The Mayoral Charity Dinner was more than just a night of entertainment; it was a testament to the power of community, generosity, and the desire to make a difference. With the funds raised, the three charities will benefit, continuing their important work in the Test Valley area. The success of the evening is a shining example of what can be achieved when people come together for a common cause.
