Millions of people will receive their benefit payments today (Friday 22 August 2025), ahead of the August Bank Holiday Weekend. The Department for Work and Pensions says bringing payments forward will help households plan for the new school term and avoid disruption over the long weekend.

Who is affected
Payments due on Saturday 23, Sunday 24 or Monday 25 August will be made on Friday 22 August. This applies across the UK and covers the main benefits, including:
- Universal Credit
- Child Benefit
- State Pension
- Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- Attendance Allowance
- Carer’s Allowance
- Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
- Income Support
- Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Pension Credit
Sir Stephen Timms, Minister for Social Security and Disability, said:
“We know how much families rely on these payments, and by bringing them forward ahead of the bank holiday we’re ensuring no one has to worry about whether their support will be there when they need it most.
“This is especially important ahead of the new school year – no family should have to choose between buying school supplies and putting food on the table.”
What this means for you
- You’ll be paid on Friday 22 August if your normal payment falls on 23–25 August.
- The amount you receive will not change; only the date is different.
- Payments go to your usual account. Universal Credit claimants can also check their journal for confirmation.
- If your benefit isn’t due on those dates, your payment schedule is unchanged.
If your payment doesn’t arrive
First check with your bank on Friday. If it still hasn’t arrived, contact your benefit helpline as listed on GOV.UK.
