Andover Bowling Club officially opened its green for the 2025 season at on Monday (14 April), welcoming members back for another year of friendly competition and community spirit.

Despite the cool, grey start to the day, bowlers were in high spirits as they returned to the green – especially after last year’s delayed opening due to persistent spring rain. This year, a stretch of warm, sunny weather has helped ensure the green was ready on time, much to the delight of members.
The playing surface and surrounding areas are in fantastic condition, thanks to the hard work of volunteers Evan, Liz, Steve and Phil, who’ve spent the winter maintaining and preparing the grounds.
Club President Steve Baker had the honour of bowling the first wood of the season — a cherished tradition at Andover Bowling Club. As the first player to touch the jack, Steve also earned the customary duty of making the first cup of tea of the season!
He was soon joined on the green by fellow members Sue Milton, Rob and Nicki Furness, and Cynthia and David Hamilton, with many more expected to take part throughout the afternoon.
With a strong turnout already and more bowlers arriving for the afternoon session, the club is hopeful for a long, successful season ahead.
Here’s to a great season at Andover Bowling Club – may the sun shine and the bowls run true.
