New Street go out in Hampshire Senior Cup in thrilling penalty shoot out to Aldershot Town

Andover New Street produced a spirited and determined display in their Hampshire Senior Cup tie against National League side Aldershot Town on Tuesday evening.

From the first whistle, New Street set the tempo with relentless energy, pressing high up the pitch and defending with great organisation. Their hard work paid off midway through the first half when Claudio Herbert fired home to break the deadlock, sending the home supporters into raptures.

Aldershot responded after the interval and, despite New Street’s disciplined resistance, the visitors eventually found an equaliser late in the second half to force the contest to penalties.

The shootout proved every bit as dramatic as the match itself, with New Street showing admirable composure as the kicks were traded. In the end, however, Aldershot edged through 7–6 from the spot.

Although it was a narrow exit from the competition, New Street can take immense pride from a heroic performance that underlined both their resilience and their quality.
