Nine-year-old Faith Howe from Andover is proving that you’re never too young to make a difference. This summer, she is taking on a remarkable 31-mile challenge to raise money for Young Lives vs Cancer, the UK charity that supports children, young people, and families affected by cancer.

Faith’s challenge comes with a twist – she is completing one mile of physical activity every day for 31 days, and no two miles are the same. From swimming and cycling to skipping, dancing, and even hiking under the summer sun, Faith is tackling her mission with determination, creativity, and a big smile.
She began her challenge on 1 August with a modest fundraising target of £100, but her enthusiasm and the community’s generosity saw her smash that within 24 hours. Her target was quickly raised to £200, and just a few days into her month‑long effort, Faith has already raised over £800 for the charity.
Speaking about why she wanted to take part, Faith said:
“The thought of anyone having cancer is just horrible. But the thought of a young person having it is just so hard to imagine what they’re going through. I’m lucky that I’m healthy, but sadly others aren’t so lucky. I want to do my bit to help.”
Faith’s mum, Sara Howe, couldn’t be prouder of her daughter:
“Faith’s determination, empathy, and energy are incredible. She’s inspiring people every day, and showing that no one is too small to make a difference. She truly understands why this matters and is turning that into action. We couldn’t be prouder of her.”
The money Faith raises will go directly to Young Lives vs Cancer, which provides Homes from Home near specialist treatment centres. These give families a free place to stay together during treatment – somewhere to sleep, cook, read bedtime stories, and be close to their loved ones at the toughest times.
Faith’s journey is being shared on her fundraising page, where supporters can follow her daily progress and contribute to her growing total.
