A petition calling on Test Valley Borough Council to rethink the location of Andover’s new theatre has failed to gain much public support. As of 9.00 am on 12 September 2025, only 37 people out of a population of around 50,000 had signed the online petition.
The petition asks the council to consider alternative sites such as the former Sainsbury’s or Wilko buildings instead of the current plan for the Chantry Centre. But the council has confirmed that the £18m government grant for the project is tied to the approved site, meaning any change would put the funding at risk.
Campaigners have warned that if the project does not move forward, it could mean a huge waste of the money already allocated.
