The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has issued a product alert affecting one batch only of the medication manufactured by Recordati Pharmaceuticals Limited.

Affected Batch Details:

  • Product: Lercanidipine HCl 20mg tablets
  • Batch Number: MD4L07
  • Expiry Date: 01/2028
  • Error: Some sides of the packaging incorrectly label the tablets as 10mg. However, the tablets are 20mg, as correctly stated on the blister strip foil and top of the carton.

What Patients Should Do

If prescribed 10mg tablets:

  • Check the batch number on any medication packs at home.
  • If you have this batch, contact your pharmacist or GP immediately.
  • If you cannot reach a healthcare professional in time for your next dose:
    • Verify the tablets are 20mg using the blister strip.
    • Snap the tablet in half along the break line and take half a tablet only.
    • This is a temporary step based on the product’s guidance and should only be used until you can confirm with your GP or pharmacist.

If prescribed 20mg tablets:

  • Double-check the strength on the blister strip foil.
  • Continue taking as directed by your doctor if the label matches your prescribed dosage.

Important:

  • Do not stop taking your medication without seeking medical advice.
  • If you’re concerned you’ve taken more than prescribed, contact your GP, pharmacist or call NHS 111.
  • Suspected side effects should be reported to the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.

Dr Alison Cave, MHRA Chief Safety Officer, said:

“Patient safety is our top priority. We ask patients to check their medicine packaging and follow our advice.”

Healthcare professionals are also being asked to stop supplying the affected batch and return it to the supplier.

Additional Information:

  • 7769 packs of this batch have been distributed across the UK.
  • Each pack contains 28 tablets.
  • The recall is precautionary and limited to batch MD4L07 only.
  • The MHRA regulates all medicines in the UK to ensure safety and effectiveness.
