Poundland Secures New Lease to Keep Andover Store Open

Poundland’s Andover store has been given another lifeline after the retailer confirmed it has secured new lease terms, allowing the High Street branch to remain open despite previously announcing it would close later this month.

The store at 11–15 High Street, Andover, had been due to close permanently on 29 July 2026 after Poundland said it had been unable to agree new lease terms with the landlord.

However, in a surprise turnaround, the retailer has now confirmed a new agreement has been reached. Last year, staff faced the prospect of losing their jobs before a last-minute agreement kept the store open. Earlier this summer, they were once again told the branch was set to close, creating another anxious period as they waited to find out whether they would still have jobs.

While the decision to keep the store open will undoubtedly come as a huge relief, it follows weeks of uncertainty for employees who have had to cope with repeated speculation about the future of their workplace.

Now, those plans have once again been reversed.

A Poundland spokesperson said: “We’re pleased to confirm that we’ve been able to secure new terms that will allow us to stay open.

“In the coming days, the store will close temporarily to allow re-stocking and we’ll confirm a reopening date as soon as we can.

“We’re pleased for both customers and colleagues alike that we’ve been able to stay open in Andover.”

The temporary closure is expected to last only while the store is replenished with stock, with a reopening date due to be announced shortly.

Poundland first opened in Andover on 5 February 2010, taking over the former Woolworths premises following the collapse of the iconic retailer. Over the past 16 years, it has become one of the town centre’s best-known discount stores.

The latest reprieve will come as welcome news for shoppers and employees alike, following repeated uncertainty over the future of the branch. While the store’s long-term future appears secure for now, its recent history means many residents will be hoping this latest agreement finally brings an end to the uncertainty surrounding one of Andover High Street’s most recognisable retailers.
