Student at The Wellington Academy Awarded Player of the Year

Brooke Casey-Batley student at The Wellington Academy has been Award managers player of the year for Swindon Town Women’s Development Team.

Last week Brooke was pleased to be handed the managers player of the year award, she plays for Swindon Town Women’s Development Team. Brooke attends The Wellington Academy Sixth Form and plays for the Swindon Town Football Club in her spare time.

The team have been doing extremely well after having secured their second spot in South West Regional League Tier Six. Brooke had recently transferred from the tier four football and became apart of main stays.

Brooke went on to say “I first started playing football when I was 7 years old this was because the boys at my school wanted me to play. I asked my dad for a pair of boots and from there I fell in love with football after I joined my first football team. I played for them for a few seasons then had to move house, so joined a new team which was Tidworth Town Tornadoes and at the same time I was invited to trial for the Wiltshire County girls advanced coaching centre. Following a successful trial, I represented Wiltshire County for 4 years.

At 14 I joined my first girls’ grassroots team Abbeymeads FC, in 21-22 we won the league and the Wiltshire County cup. We then became Stanford U17 girls for the 22-23 season and joined the Oxford girls league where we won the league and league Cup.  In the 22-23 season I played for my first women’s senior team which was Larkhall Athletics playing in the Women’s National League 1 South West, which is Tier 4 of the women’s game.

I played for them for one season and decided it wasn’t a good fit for me, so I moved to Swindon Town, where I play for their development team in the women’s national reserve league, after only a few games I was made captain for the rest of the season, this allowed me to show my understanding of the game and how I can lead which saw me winning the managers player of the season award.”

Steven Paddock Headteacher at The Wellington Academy went on to say “The school is extremely proud of Brooke and it is great to see her progress in football. After only recently transitioning from the U16 to main stays, Brooke has already been given a manager’s award and is regularly keeping us updated on her journey with Swindon Town Football Club. We take great pride in celebrating our students and their many achievements.”
