On Tuesday 26th October local families with kids aged 11 and under who qualified for free school meals, were invited along to St Marys church in Andover to the first Good grub club in Andover.
Local families spent the morning preparing lunch together, before making some smoothies using the smoothie bike. They were then split into two groups and took turns in enjoying a paint fueled creative activity from Chapel Arts and an exercise circuit challenge from Andover leisure centre .
Families finished the morning by enjoying a meal together and each family were given a meal box and recipe card to take away , so that they could recreate the delicious meal at home. The RCS worked in partnership with The Lighthouse in Andover to provide food for the Good Grub Club. They hope to be able to provide more opportunities like this in the future to Andover families , please follow them on Facebook, The Lighthouse Andover, to keepup to date with their latest events.
The RCS , is based at The Longmeadow Centre, Cricketers Way in Andover where they run a community pantry. The principle of the pantry is to give those in need the opportunity to have a ‘helping hand’ by getting food for a small membership fee per visit. The Pantry’s provide a wide range of Fresh, Frozen and Ambient food, giving households reassurance, support to manage and budget, reducing food entering land fill.
