Andover Musical Theatre Company & Starlights Youth Theatre Present The Sound of Music at The Lights, 12-16 May 2026.

Off the back of recent successes, Rock of Ages and Fiddler on the Roof, Andover Musical Theatre Company (AMTC) – who have been at the forefront of Andover’s cultural scene, treading the boards for over 60 years – are thrilled to bring one of the world’s best-loved musicals to the stage this spring. The Sound of Music runs at The Lights, Andover, from Tuesday 12th to Saturday 16th May 2026, with performances featuring no less than 30 talented performers of all ages.

This joint production between AMTC and Starlights Youth Theatre showcases the wealth of talent right here on our doorstep. Leading the company is Millie Longsmith in the iconic role of Maria, opposite Jon Baron as the commanding Captain von Trapp. The warm and steadfast Mother Abbess is portrayed by Libby Dix, with Chip Philo characterising the witty impresario Max Detweiler, and Liz Hood bringing sophistication to the role of Baroness Elsa Schrader.
The von Trapp children are played by twelve young performers from Starlights Youth Theatre – AMTC’s group for 9 to 17 year olds – who bring energy, fun, and buckets of charm across all six performances. The two teams take turns to perform, led by Grace Aucamp and Donna Doig, who share the role of the eldest von Trapp daughter, Liesl. Team Do Re Mi will perform on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evening, while Team Edelweiss will do Wednesday, Friday Evening and Saturday matinee.
The production is directed by Carol Robinson, with musical direction by Neil Streeter. Together, they have assembled a production that celebrates both the enduring appeal of this classic musical and the remarkable homegrown talent Andover has to offer – providing an affordable alternative to the West End.
“We are so proud of everything this cast and crew have achieved. The Sound of Music is a show that resonates with audiences of every generation, and we can’t wait to share it with Andover. Behind the scenes, there is a tremendous amount of effort that goes into each of our productions, driven by a shared passion for performing arts and a desire to make both the involvement and enjoyment of musicals accessible. A trip to the West End can be expensive, with tickets rising to over £100, but our £15–20 ticket price makes it a more budget-friendly option – please come and support us”
– Paul Marsh, Chair, AMTC
Set against the sweeping backdrop of the Austrian Alps, The Sound of Music tells the timeless story of Maria, a novice nun and governess whose free spirit transforms the lives of the von Trapp family, bringing music and love back into their lives. The show features some of the most beloved songs in musical theatre history, including Do Re Mi, Climb Ev’ry Mountain, My Favourite Things, and Edelweiss.
