The Tea Room Andover Awarded £1,200 Independent Retailer Grant

A much-loved independent café in the heart of Andover has received a welcome boost thanks to Test Valley Borough Council’s Independent Retailer Grant scheme.

The Tea Room Andover, located at 45 High Street behind the Guildhall, has been awarded £1,200 to support its continued growth. Open for just nine months, the vintage-style café has quickly become a favourite destination for locals seeking homemade food, cream teas, and a cosy, welcoming atmosphere.

Run by mother and daughter duo Jackie Lusk and Hayley Rowbotham, The Tea Room offers a range of freshly prepared breakfasts, lunches, and pre-booked Afternoon Tea experiences – and the grant will help them expand further, bringing new menu items and additions to their offering this summer.

Councillor Debbie Cattell, Andover St Mary’s ward member, said:

“The Tea Room has established itself as a valued addition to the High Street. I’m pleased that the council has been able to support the business through the Independent Retailer Grant scheme, which is designed to help local enterprises grow and contribute to the footfall in the town centre.”

Jackie Lusk, co-owner of The Tea Room, added:

“We appreciate the advice and guidance received from TVBC, and of course the support from the community and our regular customers. We look forward to introducing new menu items for the summer to include paninis, a salad bar and ice creams.

Once we have received the go-ahead for our alcohol license, we will be enhancing our Afternoon Tea Experience with the option to include Prosecco.”

The Independent Retailer Grant is one of several initiatives run by Test Valley Borough Council to help revitalise the high street and support small businesses in town centres across the borough.
