Two Decades On, Still Rocking: Stonepig Celebrate 20 Years

Well-known local band Stonepig are celebrating 20 years on the music scene with a special anniversary gig in Andover this weekend.

The milestone event, dubbed the 20/20/20 gig, will take place on Saturday 20th December from 9pm at the band’s spiritual home, The Station Inn. The venue itself is also marking a significant anniversary this year, celebrating 20 years under the stewardship of Alex and Romana Gillies, making the evening a triple celebration of music, community and longevity.

Stonepig’s journey began 20 years ago in an empty hall on Suffolk Road in Andover. On that first evening, six musicians set up their own lights, sound and instruments before a growing crowd descended on the venue. What followed was Stonepig’s very first live public performance — the start of a two-decade run that would see the band become a firm favourite on the local music scene.

Over the years, Stonepig have performed at countless pubs, clubs and festivals across Hampshire, Berkshire and Wiltshire, earning a reputation for high-energy live shows and loyal followings wherever they play.

While the band’s line-up has evolved, the spirit of Stonepig remains firmly intact. Andrew and Marcus are the two remaining original members, continuing to drive the band forward. The current line-up is completed by Pete Burden and Dave Allon of The Rock Café, and Eddie Nias.

Drummer Dave Allon spoke warmly about being part of the band, saying:
“I’ve had the pleasure of knowing the core of Stonepig for over three decades and so when they were searching for a new drummer it seemed a no-brainer to be a part of this incredible, long-established band. It’s always a pleasure to play with these guys and it has helped me through some tough times. Stonepig is therapy.”

Lead singer Pete Burden added:
“To be part of a band that’s still packing out venues after 20 years is something really special. Stonepig is all about great music, great people and having a brilliant night out. Playing a home gig at The Station Inn to celebrate this milestone feels absolutely right — it’s going to be a proper celebration.”

For music lovers in Andover, Saturday night promises to be a celebration not to be missed. With roots firmly planted in the town and a legacy built on memorable live performances, Stonepig’s 20th anniversary homecoming gig is set to be a fitting tribute to two decades of rock.

Those heading along can expect a cracking night, raising a glass to Stonepig’s past, present and future, and to a band that continues to leave its mark on Andover’s music scene.
