Designed for beginners and curious creatives alike, the workshops aim to preserve historic crafts while encouraging creativity and community connection.

The programme begins in January with a darning workshop, teaching practical techniques to repair and revive well-loved textiles. In February, participants can try their hand at weaving, creating decorative wall hangings while learning the fundamentals of this timeless craft.

Later sessions will introduce beginner-friendly knitting, followed by workshops covering braiding, warping, embroidery and crochet. All materials are provided, and each session is led by skilled tutors who guide participants step by step.

Sue Tapliss, Mill Director at Whitchurch Silk Mill, said:

“We’re proud to launch this programme of heritage craft workshops to help people rediscover the joy of making and reconnect with traditional skills. Each session is designed to be relaxed, friendly and inspiring, perfect for anyone who wants to learn something new and create something truly unique.”

The workshops also highlight the mill’s historic role in British craftsmanship, combining creativity with sustainability and mindful making. Each participant will leave with new skills and a handmade piece to take home.

Spaces are limited to keep sessions personal, and early booking is recommended. Full details and dates are available via the Whitchurch Silk Mill What’s On page and downloadable workshop guide.
