Andover Town Bow Out of George Mason Memorial Shield

Andover Town’s run in the George Mason Memorial Shield came to an end with a 5–1 semi-final defeat away to Liss Athletic at Newman Collard Park.

The visitors made a strong start, taking the lead inside the opening three minutes thanks to a well-placed header from Henry Bragginton. However, Liss Athletic responded midway through the first half when Seamus Evans found the corner from close range to level the match. Just before half-time, Theo Glazier struck from just inside the box to give the home side a 2–1 lead going into the break.

Liss extended their advantage early in the second half, with Evans grabbing his second of the game following a defensive lapse. Captain Elliot Harrison added a fourth with an acrobatic finish, and substitute Ralph Anelay rounded off the scoring with a late goal to make it 5–1.

Despite the result, Andover Town’s campaign featured several highlights, including a dominant 10–0 win over QK Southampton in the quarter-finals. The team will now turn their attention to the remainder of their league fixtures.

Liss Athletic progress to the final, where they will face Denmead at AFC Portchester’s OnSite Group Stadium on Saturday 10th May, with kick-off scheduled for 11am.
