Rogue Traders Targeting Vulnerable Residents in Andover and Surrounding Areas

Residents in Andover and across the Test Valley are being warned about a rise in rogue traders exploiting members of the community – particularly elderly and vulnerable individuals.

Police and Trading Standards have issued guidance after an increase in unsolicited visits by individuals posing as builders, roofers, and maintenance workers. These individuals often pressure residents into paying for unnecessary or poor-quality work, sometimes at inflated prices, or with threats and intimidation.

Residents are strongly advised not to agree to any building work offered as a result of a cold call or uninvited visit.

Key advice to protect yourself and others:

Doorstep crime and rogue traders:

Bogus callers and distraction burglary:

  • Use a door chain or spyhole before answering the door.
  • Keep front and back doors locked.
  • If in doubt – don’t open the door.
  • Genuine callers will always be happy to show ID and wait while you verify it independently.
