Residents on both the north and south sides of Smannell Road reported losing power shortly before 7.45 pm, with even the streetlights currently out.

At the time of writing, only battery-powered Christmas lights and emergency stairwell lighting in some blocks of flats remain on.

The cause of the outage has not yet been confirmed, but Love Andover has contacted GTC Power for further details, including when power is expected to be restored.

The company said:

“GTC are aware of a High Voltage incident on our electricity Network.  GTC do not currently have an estimate time of restoration due to ongoing investigations.”

GTC Update 22:20

Engineers are now on site and working to fix the issue in your area – we do not have an estimated time of restoration yet, but we’ll update you once we know more.

Some homes might not be affected right now, but we may need to briefly switch off power to a few more properties to complete repairs. If this is required, we’ll let you know as soon as we have a timeframe. In the meantime, if you do have electricity, we recommend charging your phone, boiling the kettle if needed, and keeping your fridge and freezer doors closed, just in case.
