Millway House Residents Knit Blankets for Dogs Trust to Help Rescues Stay Warm This Winter

Residents and staff at Millway House Care Home in Andover have been busy with their knitting needles this autumn – creating colourful patchwork blankets to help keep rescue dogs warm at Dogs Trust Salisbury in Newton Tony.

The care home has built a strong friendship with the local Dogs Trust team over the years, regularly supporting their work and welcoming visits from volunteers and rescue dogs. This year, thanks to donations of wool from friends and families, residents decided to put their knitting skills to good use for the charity’s winter appeal.

Care Home Manager Claire Lousteau said:

“We’re always delighted to see Justine from the Dogs Trust, and this year we couldn’t wait to hand over a pile of gorgeous, colourful blankets for her to take back to the dogs in her care. Our residents loved making the blankets – it’s been a wonderful way to come together and, of course, to support a very deserving cause.

“The team at Newton Tony are so happy and friendly – it’s always a pleasure to see them. I know they would love anyone to visit the centre to see their fantastic facilities – and of course, to meet all their lovely rescue dogs.”

The Dogs Trust Salisbury rehoming centre can care for up to 80 dogs across 49 kennels, each designed to provide comfort and enrichment, with an on-site training barn and veterinary facilities. In 2024, the centre helped an impressive 421 dogs find their forever homes.

The heartwarming partnership between Millway House and Dogs Trust is a perfect example of community spirit – where a shared love of animals brings people together for a good cause.
