The long-standing scaffolding surrounding the Ladbrokes building in the town centre could finally be on its way out, bringing an end to what many residents have described as a persistent eyesore.

The structure, which has been in place for 1,413 days—equating to just under four years—has dominated the streetscape and drawn regular criticism from locals and business owners alike.
However, there are now clear signs of progress. Work has taken place today to begin dismantling the scaffolding, with sections already being removed. Sources close to the project have indicated that while the majority of the structure is expected to come down imminently, a minimal framework will remain temporarily to allow for painting and finishing work to be completed.
Encouragingly, it is understood that the remaining elements should be fully removed by the beginning of May, marking the end of a lengthy and often frustrating chapter for the town centre.
The removal will likely be welcomed by nearby businesses and residents, many of whom have long called for action to address the unsightly structure. With the scaffolding finally set to disappear, attention can now turn to the improved appearance of the building and the wider area.
