On Monday morning, Stuart Broadhurst completed his extraordinary and tough challenge to raise funds for a hospice that supported a close family friend during a difficult time.

Stuart, who has lived in Andover all his life and manages type 1 Diabetes, decided on 50 miles to mark his 50th birthday.
The run saw him complete six loops of 7.5 miles, each beginning and ending at his home, before pushing through a final five-mile stretch to the finish line at his workplace, Stannah, on the East Portway Industrial Estate. He completed the challenge in under 12 hours.
After completing the run, Stuart said told us he was understandably “pretty tired” after covering the 50 miles, but proud to have achieved his goal.
He said:
“I would just like to promote what a fantastic charity the hospice is and the support it gives to the local community. The hospice helped a close friend who recently passed away and were really supportive at a difficult time.”
Stuart also highlighted the support he received from his employer, Stannah, which pledged to double every donation made.
“In an amazing show of support, Stannah agreed to match fund every pound raised,” he said. “The support I’ve had from staff members to help set all this up has been incredible.”
He added that the challenge would not have been possible without the encouragement of those around him.
“The training involved and support from family and friends made sure I achieved my goal.”
The fundraiser is dedicated to the Countess of Brecknock Hospice, which provides care and support to people across Andover and surrounding villages.
Stuart hopes his efforts will encourage others to support the hospice, which he described as an “amazing local charity that gives so much love and care to the community.
