Goodworth Clatford Village Club welcomed residents, volunteers and project partners on Friday, 16 October to celebrate the completion of a major refurbishment project supported by a £70,699 award from Test Valley Borough Council’s Community Delivery Fund.

The investment has funded the replacement of windows and external doors, alongside a refurbishment of the interior, helping to create a warmer, safer and more welcoming space for residents. The improvements were designed in response to strong community support, with 180 responses received from 332 households, demonstrating the importance of the club to village life.
To mark the completion of the works, the club welcomed Councillors Stewart MacDonald, Maureen Flood and Susanne Hasselmann, alongside contractors, volunteers and everyone involved in bringing the project to life.
The refurbished venue will continue to provide space for a wide range of activities, from a variety of classes and groups, community gatherings and celebrations, to clubs, snooker and social events. The improvements will also help strengthen the club’s long-term sustainability, ensuring it remains a valued asset at the heart of the community for many years to come.
The project was supported through the council’s Community Delivery Fund, which works alongside communities to help deliver projects that create lasting benefits, strengthen local resilience and support places that matter most to residents. Throughout the project, Test Valley Borough Council’s community engagement officers worked closely with the club committee, helping develop the plans and supporting the project from concept through to completion.

Councillor Stewart MacDonald, portfolio holder for community led projects, said; “It was wonderful to attend the opening event and see the difference this project has made. The transformation of the Club is remarkable. Goodworth Clatford Village Club has always been an important part of village life, and these improvements have created an even better space for residents to come together, celebrate, make memories and build connections. Through the Community Delivery Fund, we’re helping communities create lasting legacies, and it’s fantastic to see the impact this project will have for generations to come.”
David Grey, Chair of the Trustees of the Village Club, said; “We’re incredibly proud of what has been achieved. Thanks to the support of Test Valley Borough Council, our volunteers and everyone who has contributed to this project, we’ve been able to give the club a new lease of life. The improvements have made a huge difference, creating a more comfortable and welcoming space for everyone who uses it. Whether it’s classes and groups, community events, celebrations, clubs or simply spending time together, the club will continue to be a place where memories are made for generations to come.”
Councillor Maureen Flood attended the event, saying; “This project is a real credit to the many volunteers, committee members and residents who have worked so hard to make it happen. The level of support shown throughout the refurbishment demonstrates just how much this facility means to local people. It’s been lovely to celebrate everyone involved and recognise the commitment that has helped secure the club’s future.”
Councillor Susanne Hasselmann also attended and added; “The refurbished club looks fantastic and provides a space that can continue to adapt to the needs of the community. From regular groups and activities to special events and celebrations, it will support village life in many different ways. I’m looking forward to seeing it thrive and continue serving residents for many years to come.”
