A Brew, a Tune and £700 Raised for Valley Leisure in Andover

An afternoon of live music, cream teas and community spirit has raised an impressive £700 to support Valley Leisure’s I Can Move More service in Andover.

The Cream Tea & Music afternoon took place at Andover Guildhall on Sunday 23 August, bringing people together for an afternoon of entertainment while raising vital funds for the local service.

The event was a joint effort between Uke@Heart, I Can and The Sofa Club, with each group playing a part in making the fundraiser a success.

Guests enjoyed plenty of tea and cake alongside live music, singing and dancing, with members of the audience encouraged to clap and join in throughout the afternoon.

Providing the soundtrack for the event was local ukulele group Uke@Heart, who were joined by a visiting Australian ukulele couple, adding an international flavour to the occasion.

The Australian musicians performed a set of their own before joining Uke@Heart for the group’s second and final performance of the afternoon.

A number of well-known favourites featured in the set, including I Wanna Be Like You from Disney’s The Jungle Book and a lively medley of Hound Dog and Blue Suede Shoes.

The afternoon was brought to a fitting close with Uke@Heart’s signature performance of Rockin’ All Over the World, with the audience joining in with the fun.

Following the fundraiser, Uke@Heart received a letter of thanks from Valley Leisure, which said the £700 donation would make a real difference to people accessing its I Can programmes and services in Andover.

I Can Move More supports people in the local community through accessible opportunities designed to help them become more active, improve their wellbeing and connect with others.

The successful afternoon also showcased the community spirit behind Uke@Heart, which is keen to welcome more people who would like to get involved.

The group practises on alternate Mondays at Andover Royal British Legion, with new members warmly invited to come along and find out more.
