Andover on the Move: Stagecoach’s Revamped Bus Network Boosts Connectivity

Since 1st September, Stagecoach’s revamped bus network has been transforming the way people travel across Andover, making journeys easier, quicker, and more convenient than ever before.

With more buses running earlier in the morning, later into the evening, and increased weekend services, this upgrade has brought exciting new opportunities for residents and visitors to explore everything the town has to offer.

These improvements were made possible through Stagecoach partnership with Hampshire County Council and funding from the Government Bus Service Improvement Plan. The changes have made a real impact on daily commutes and leisure trips alike. View the full changes here.

Andover’s Best Just a Bus Ride Away

Since the network changes, locals have been enjoying easy access to some of Andover’s top destinations. Thrill-seekers have been catching Route 5 to Thruxton Circuit, while families have flocked to Finkley Down Farm on Route 4. History buffs are now more easily reaching Andover Museum using any of the town routes.

The revamped Route 3 takes nature lovers to Anton Lakes Nature Reserve, and the town routes now offer seamless access to Riverside Bowl and Charlton Lakeside for a full day of fun activities like adventure golf and boating. Meanwhile, shoppers have been making the most of quick and convenient trips to the Chantry Centre, Andover’s top shopping spot.

More Buses, More Often

One of the most notable improvements has been the increase in frequency and extended operating hours. With 60% more Sunday services and 50% more evening buses, Andover’s residents now have greater flexibility to travel at any time of the day or week. Whether heading to work, meeting friends, or exploring Andover’s sights, the updated schedules have made travel more accessible than ever.

New Routes and Expanded Services

Stagecoach’s changes include several new and improved routes, including:

  • Route 1 now links Kingsway Gardens, Roman Way, and Cricketers Way with the town centre, running every 20 minutes on weekdays and Saturdays, and every 30 minutes on Sundays.
  • Route 2 replaced the old service 6, providing a quicker and more frequent connection to Augusta Park, with buses every 20 minutes on weekdays and every 30 minutes on Sundays.
  • Route 3 now serves Picket Twenty, Charlton, and Saxon Fields, running every 30 minutes, and connecting to Andover Railway Station and Andover Hospital during peak hours.
  • Route 4 has taken over the Picket Piece and The Drove routes, continuing to serve John Hanson School students.

Some quieter areas, such as Picton Road and Floral Way, remain connected by dedicated shopper buses, while the main services continue to serve much of the town.

Country Routes Also Benefit

The country bus routes have seen significant improvements too. The popular Activ8 service to Salisbury now runs every 20 minutes on weekdays, while services to Winchester and Basingstoke have been expanded to offer more travel options for residents. The 75 now connects Andover with Winchester every hour, and the 76 to Basingstoke runs more frequently, with added late-night buses on Fridays and Saturdays.

Since its launch on 1st September, Stagecoach’s new network has been a huge success, helping people get around Andover with more ease and comfort than ever before. Whether you’re commuting or exploring, Andover’s new and improved bus services are here to make your journeys smoother and more enjoyable.
