On Thursday, 26th September, four teams from John Hanson Community School will take part in an inspiring 24-hour triathlon event to raise money for a former students new school Markway School.
The teams, made up of staff and students, will cycle, row, and run a collective distance equivalent to travelling from their school in Andover to Longford Town Football Club in Ireland—Tudor’s favourite team.
Tudor, a former student of John Hanson who now attends Markway School, is the inspiration behind this event. The funds raised will be used to transform an overgrown outdoor area at Markway School into a much-needed sensory garden, providing a quiet and calming space for the growing number of students.
The event kicks off at 3pm on Thursday, 26th September, and will continue for 24 hours, finishing at 3pm the following day. The school invites the community to join in and support the teams by visiting the sports hall between 3pm and 10pm on Thursday to cheer them on.
In addition to the triathlon, a family quiz will be held on Thursday evening from 7pm to 8pm in the main hall, hosted by Mr. Taylor and the prefect team. Entry is £10 per team, with 50% of the proceeds going to the fundraiser and the other 50% to the prize fund. Teams can have up to four adults, plus any accompanying children. You can pre-register with Mr. Taylor or simply turn up on the evening to take part.
A raffle will also run throughout the event, with tickets available for purchase at school reception during the day and later in the sports hall and main hall between 3pm and 9pm. The raffle draw will take place overnight, and winners will be notified on Friday, 27th September.
The event promises to be a true test of endurance for all participants, who have been training hard in the lead-up. The senior prefect boys team, including Zac, Zach P, George, and Leo, will be taking part alongside the senior prefect girls team, featuring Karolina, Chloe, Taiya, and Anna.
