Archer fights to keep title hopes alive

Andover star Jake Archer returns to domestic action this weekend and it’s back to Silverstone,  where Archer recently competed in the Octo British Grand Prix.

Jake had a disappointing end to his GP debut after pulling out of the race with a mechanical issue but there were lots of positives to take away from the experience;

I’ve gone 4 seconds quicker around Silverstone than ever before and being on track with the best Moto3 riders was amazing. I was able to study their racing lines and we have lots of good data so I’m hoping to put this all to good use at the weekend, I need to take wins away from Tom (Booth Amos) and close the gap to him at the top” said Archer.

Archer knows this is a crucial weekend in his fight to keep his title winning ambitions alive.

I need to put the pressure on Tom, two wins would do that so I have to be positive. I have to finish ahead of him it’s as simple as that.”

In last season’s corresponding fixture at Silverstone, Archer picked up a podium in third behind Charlie Nesbitt and Ed Rendell. Race 2 threw up a real surprise as 12 DNF’s gave Dani Saez a first Motostar win.

Lap times were in the 2’20’s so Archer knows he can go at least 5 seconds quicker this time around. Watch out for fireworks at the front with The City Lifting duo taking on Ed Rendell, Storm Stacey, and Richard Kerr, all expected to be in the hunt for a podium.

The surprise again could be Eugene McManus Junior, who’s best result around Silverstone is 19th in race 2 last season, with an RS Racing package this year he will be pushing hard.

This weekend sees the next crucial stage of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship when the six Title Fighters will be decided in an intense triple-header race card.

The Motostar Championship has two races around the 3.66 mile circuit with Free Practice 1 on Friday at 10.15am,  FP2 at 14.55pm, followed by Qualifying on Saturday at 10.20am.

Race 1 is also on Saturday at 15.15pm with Race 2 concluding the weekends line up at 14.55pm on Sunday afternoon.
