Jake Archer went into Round 6 of The Hel Performance Motostar British Championship at Brands Hatch, full of confidence and with a slender 15 point lead over team mate Tom Booth Amos.
In Free Practice One on Friday morning, Tom Booth Amos took a tumble but still finished in the top three behind Archer in second and Ed Rendell, who is looking more consistent on the recently purchased ex City Lifting KTM machine.
Free Practice 2 in the afternoon, saw a return to proceedings with Archer and Booth Amos battling for P1, Booth Amos set the quickest lap of 1:34.066 just a second off lap record pace, Jake finished in second 0.394 behind.
Qualifying didn’t go to plan for Team City Lifting on Saturday morning, after overnight rain, both riders delayed going out and waited for the conditions to improve, with 15 minutes left of the session Tom Booth Amos secured another pole position, however Jake Archer wasn’t so lucky and he finished in 12th place. The heavens opened on Saturday afternoon and Race 1 was postponed until 17.40pm on Sunday.
In Race One Jake started 12th on the grid looking to move quickly through the field. By lap two he was 9th and making good progress. Into lap four, Jake was fourth and began to battle with Eugene McManus and Storm Stacey for third place, Booth Amos and Ed Rendell had opened up a gap ahead. It was nip and tuck for the remaining 10 laps, Storm Stacey pinching third by 0.057 from McManus with Jake in a solid fifth. Jake would line up 7th for race two later in the afternoon…
Race 2 and the last of the weekends entertainment turned out to be a real firecracker with Tom Booth Amos running away at the front for a double win at Brands. The ensuing battle behind between Jake, Eugene McManus, Storm Stacey and Ed Rendell was possibly the highlight of the race card with all four riders swapping places for the ten lap finale. With less than a second separating the pack behind runaway leader Amos, it was Jake Archer who pinched second place ahead of Eugene McManus, all three riders are part of Ryan Saxelby’s RS Racing factory.
A thrilling end to the racing now sees Tom Booth Amos leading the Championship ahead of team mate Archer by four points as the Motostar paddock moves onto Thruxton in two weeks time (4th – 6th August ).
