As the nights draw in and the air turns crisp, Andover is once again preparing for one of its most heart-warming creative traditions – the Big Star, Little Star Poetry Competition 2025, proudly sponsored by David Mellor Family Jewellers.
This year’s enchanting theme, “Winter Magic and Community”, invites budding poets of all ages to capture the wonder of the season and the spirit of togetherness that makes Andover shine brightest during wintertime. From glistening frosts and starlit skies to cosy family moments and the kindness that connects us all, entrants are encouraged to let their words reflect the warmth and beauty of community life.
Aspiring poets are asked to:
✨ Write an original poem inspired by Winter Magic
✨ Keep their entry to no more than 30 lines
✨ Submit their poem by 5th November 2025 to events@andoverbid.org.uk
The competition offers an unforgettable prize. The winning Big Star and Little Star poets will have the chance to record their poems in the Andover Radio studio, with their audio featured in a special video to be shown on the big screen at the Andover Christmas Festival on Friday 21st November 2025.
Following the video, the winners will join the Mayor of Andover and a very special guest on stage to press the button and officially switch on Andover’s Christmas lights. They will also receive a beautiful keepsake from David Mellor Family Jewellers’ ‘Little Star’ range – a sparkling reminder of their achievement.
The winning poems will also be broadcast across Andover Radio throughout the festive season, spreading the message of community and winter wonder to listeners across the town.
