A local technician from Chilbolton is set to take his skills global after winning the Isuzu UK Technical Skills Competition – a prestigious test of technical knowledge and hands-on ability.
Stefan Harland, who works at Hunt Forest Group in Chilbolton, outshone top technicians from across the country to take first place in the UK finals, earning himself a place at the Isuzu I-1 Grand Prix in Bangkok, Thailand later this year.
Stefan’s success is not only a win for him and Hunt Forest Group, but also a proud moment for the Andover area, as Stefan’s journey started right here. He began his career in 2012 as an apprentice studying at Andover College, before going on to gain experience with various vehicle brands in Basingstoke.
In September 2023, he joined Hunt Forest Group, where his technical talent and passion for working on pick-ups used by farming communities quickly became clear.
Putting Skills to the Test
The UK finals, held on 18th February 2025, saw the country’s top five Isuzu technicians compete in a series of tough challenges designed to test every aspect of their mechanical knowledge and practical skills. Over the course of three hours, they were assessed on:
- Rebuilding and timing an Isuzu D-Max engine
- Measuring components to calculate correct head gasket fitment
- Completing a detailed vehicle health check on the New Isuzu D-Max
- Sitting a 25-question written exam
Stefan’s performance stood out, demonstrating exceptional technical ability, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail — ultimately securing his win and the chance to represent the UK on the global stage.
Local Pride
Speaking about his achievement, Stefan said:
“It is a privilege to be named as the winner of the Isuzu World Technical Skills – UK Competition. I am very excited to be put forward to compete in the global competition in Thailand later this year, and I hope to do Hunt Forest Group and Isuzu UK proud!”
