Construction Begins on New MRI Unit at Andover War Memorial Hospital

Work is now underway on a new MRI facility at Andover War Memorial Hospital, bringing cutting-edge diagnostic imaging closer to the local community.

A major step forward has been taken at Andover War Memorial Hospital, as construction begins on a brand new MRI unit that will improve access to high-quality diagnostic imaging for patients in the area.

The new facility forms part of the hospital’s Community Diagnostic Centre, which already includes a CT building, and is designed to deliver faster, easier and more efficient scan appointments for people across Andover and surrounding villages.

Colleagues from Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, together with supporters and contractors, marked the start of the build with a ground-breaking ceremony held on site earlier this month.

Once complete, the purpose-built unit will feature:

  • A state-of-the-art MRI scanner
  • A modern reception area
  • Clinical spaces to improve the overall patient experience

Construction will continue through the summer, with the facility expected to open later this year.

Trust Chief Executive Alex Whitfield said:

“This valuable new addition to our Andover Community Diagnostic Centre will make a real difference to so many of our patients, improving access to diagnostic imaging and offering an even greater patient experience using the latest technology.”

The new MRI building is part of broader efforts to expand local diagnostic services and reduce travel for tests, helping more patients receive faster diagnoses closer to home.
