Council Responds to Longmeadow Centre Closure Plans

Test Valley Borough Council has responded to news that Gateway Central Services plans to close the Longmeadow Centre in Cricketers Way, Andover – a decision that has caused concern among local residents and community groups.

A spokesperson for the council confirmed:

“We share the view that this is incredibly disappointing for our local communities and all those who access services at Longmeadow Centre.

“We own the building and let it on a long lease to Gateway Central Services. We haven’t been given formal notice that they intend to leave but received an email they sent to us and other partners on Friday indicating that they were planning to close the centre. This decision has not been driven by the council, and we are equally surprised and saddened by the news.”

The council has emphasised that it is now prioritising conversations with key local organisations to assess next steps and ensure minimal disruption to vital community services.

“We are prioritising working with partners, including Andover Food Partnership, to look at how we can limit the impact of the decision and explore how we can support the continued provision of essential services.”

Although many residents were unaware of Gateway Central Services’ rebranding (formerly Romsey Community School), this clarification underlines the complexities involved in managing multi-use spaces with several service providers.

Test Valley Borough Council says it remains committed to working proactively with all relevant partners to find a way forward.

This follows earlier reports highlighting the potential closure and community reaction to the Longmeadow Centre.
