Countdown Begins to Weekly Food Waste Collections in Test Valley

Residents across Test Valley are just one month away from the start of the new weekly food waste collection service, launching on Monday 13 October 2025.

Deliveries of food waste caddy packs have already begun. Each pack includes a five-litre kitchen caddy, a 23-litre kerbside caddy, a roll of compostable liners, and an information leaflet. Homes with shared bins will receive a communal 140-litre wheeled bin with a grey lid.

Households are advised to store liners in a dry place and keep the leaflet safe. A postcard will arrive soon confirming each household’s collection day.

The new service will see food waste sent to an anaerobic digestion facility, where it will be turned into renewable energy and fertiliser.

Councillor David Drew, portfolio holder for recycling and environmental services, said the service marks “a major step forward” in reducing waste and boosting recycling across the borough. He reminded residents not to start using the caddies until week commencing 6 October.

To mark the launch, 20 golden tickets have been hidden in randomly selected packs. Winners will be able to choose from prizes including a £50 voucher for The Lights and three-month premium memberships at local leisure centres.
