Emergency Response After Gas Main Hit at Walworth Industrial Estate

Emergency services were called to Walworth Industrial Estate in Andover on Saturday morning after a gas main was struck, prompting road closures and a large-scale response to keep the public safe.

Hampshire Police said officers were called to North Way at 10.10am on 1 August following reports of a gas leak. Police attended the scene to assist with road closures while the incident was managed by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Fire crews from Winchester, Andover and Romsey were dispatched after the damaged gas main was exposed.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to help disperse the gas and maintain a safe working environment while engineers from the gas network carried out repairs to the damaged pipe.

A safety cordon was established around the affected area, with nearby roads temporarily closed to protect members of the public while the emergency response was underway.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the incident was brought under control shortly after 1pm, when a stop message was received and crews returned to their stations.

There have been no reports of any injuries.

Motorists and businesses in the area experienced temporary disruption while emergency services and gas engineers dealt with the incident.
