Golfers Tee Up £9,214 Boost for Andover Young Carers

Andover Golfing Society held their annual Charity Day this year played at Leckford Golf Courses in aid of Andover Young Carers 71 players enjoyed a great afternoon’s golf on one the finest golf courses in Hampshire and which, as usual, was in great condition.

Thanks to some generous sponsorship [especially from Barclays Bank and Shaw Gibbs] some very kindly donated auction items, and some ‘mischievous’ fines for what one might call ‘imperfect play’, £9214 was raised for this very worthwhile charity.

Andover Young Carers provides After Schools Clubs for young carers aged 8 to 18 years old in Andover, helping support young carers groups in schools and providing one to one support for young carers when needed. Amanda explained that young carers can often be caring for a sibling or parent who is ill or disabled, which leaves them little time for themselves. They often miss out on their childhood due to responsibilities far beyond their years, often struggling at school and lacking support. AYC is there to support them. AYC relies heavily on fundraising, whether from trusts and foundations, individuals, companies or local fundraising events, as only 12% of our funding comes from statutory funding from our Local Authority.

Amanda Kelly, AYC Charity Executive said, “A huge thank you to Andover Golfing Society for hosting a successful golf day and through everyone’s generosity raised an incredible amount of money for Andover Young Carers. These much-needed funds will help us continue supporting young carers across our community.”

Caring for someone you love can be hard work, and as a young person even harder. At Andover Young Carers we aim to be a consistent support these young people can rely on, as well as somewhere they get a chance to relax and have some fun.
