An Andover care home is looking to bring the local community together and help celebrate its first birthday in the town later this month (February, 28).
Harrier Grange in Hawker Siddeley Way, has also invited members from the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund ahead of the RAF centenary on April 1 to mark the occasion with a day of fun, food and music planned.
The home, a residential, nursing, dementia and respite care home, has proved very popular in Andover and has welcomed more than 50 residents since it opened its doors a year ago.
The Mayor of Test Valley, Cllr Carl Borg-Neal, who is a regular visitor to Harrier Grange, named after the famous jet fighter, will be cutting the cake which will be baked in the shape of the jump jet by in-house star chef, James Blight.
James and his staff will also be laying on a buffet and refreshments for residents, guests and visitors. This will be followed by music from Andover-based singer Vicki Parkinson who will be charming all with her soulful renditions of Vera Lynn and other well-known classics from the 1940s era.
Harrier Grange caught the attention of the media when it opened due to its superb facilities which include a salon and cinema. The home even has its own activities coordinator, Chris Martin, who arranges a programme of events for residents to participate in to keep the mind and body active.
Harrier Grange care home director Kay Kelly said staff will be giving guided tours for members of the community interested in looking around the home on the day.
Kay said “We are delighted to be celebrating our first birthday in Andover – it has been a fabulous first 12 months in the town and we feel we have really been welcomed and accepted by the local community which is fantastic.
“Cllr Carl Borg-Neal has been one of our strongest supporters and we are delighted that he has agreed to cut the cake! I think it’s safe to say that everyone is looking forward to trying a piece of James’ fantastic birthday cake! Our residents are really looking forward to the party and seeing Vicki Parkinson who will be singing some classics from the war era.”
