Local Runner Steps Up for Finding Freedom in Unique Half Marathon Effort

Andover resident Adam Rimmer is set to take on a rather unusual challenge this weekend — running the Andover Half Marathon on 26th October in a pair of Crocs — all in aid of local charity Finding Freedom From Abuse.

Having completed the Andover Half Marathon for the past two years, Adam decided it was time to push his limits even further.

“I really wanted to challenge myself this time,” he said. “I felt like I needed something bigger, and what’s a bigger challenge than running 13.1 miles in Crocs?”

The idea, Adam explained, came from his love of the famously comfortable footwear.

“I wear Crocs constantly, and I wondered if I could actually run a half marathon in them. Some people may disagree, but I think Crocs are some of the best footwear ever! Anything is possible with the right determination — whether it’s running 13.1 miles in unusual shoes or tackling a big goal in life.”

Although this will be his first race in Crocs, Adam is no stranger to endurance challenges, having previously taken on several extreme events, most of them on two wheels.

“This is a brand-new, slightly ridiculous kind of pain I’m signing up for,” he joked. “It adds a whole new layer of unpredictability to the day!”

Adam is raising funds for Finding Freedom From Abuse, a charity offering vital support to survivors of domestic and sexual abuse in Andover and the surrounding areas.

“The charity was selected as our Charity of the Year at work, which gave me an immediate connection, but I’m genuinely proud to support them,” he said. “They do fantastic work right here in our community. Every painful step I take in those Crocs will be raising money for their vital work — and that’s the real motivation.”

As he prepares for race day, Adam remains upbeat and ready for the challenge.

“After two half marathons, I needed a new pair of running shoes — and since Crocs are the comfiest of all shoes, it just seemed like the next logical step.”
