Mason Mount Backs Andover Youth Football Appeal as Fundraising Passes £20,000

Andover Town Youth Football Club has received an outpouring of support from the local community and beyond after news of the club’s recent fraud was shared widely across local and national media.

Since we first brought you the story, national radio, television and online coverage has helped shine a spotlight on the challenges facing the volunteer-run grassroots club, prompting a wave of donations and messages of encouragement. As a result, more than £20,000 has now been raised towards the club’s £30,000 target, a significant step forward in securing the remainder of the season for its young players.

However, the biggest boost came after Hampshire-born Manchester United and England midfielder Mason Mount became aware of the club’s situation and donated £500 to the appeal.

Sharing his support via Instagram, Mount encouraged the young players to keep enjoying the sport, writing:

“Play with a smile and continue to enjoy the game.

All the best.”

He later added:

“Growing up in Hampshire and starting out at youth level, I know how important community football is to the development of young players.

Please support anyway you can.”

The gesture was warmly received by the club, which publicly thanked the England international on social media, posting:

“Thank you to Mason Mount!”

The donation has been widely praised by supporters, with many describing it as a powerful reminder of the impact grassroots football can have in shaping future professional players.

Club officials have reiterated their gratitude to everyone who has donated, shared the appeal or offered practical support, saying the response has been overwhelming and has provided renewed hope during an incredibly difficult period.

The fundraising appeal remains open as the club works to close the remaining gap and protect the future of football for its young players.

The update comes while a police investigation into the incident remains ongoing. Hampshire Police previously confirmed that a woman in her 30s from Hampshire has been arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation in connection with missing funds at the club. She has since been released on police bail while further enquiries continue.
