People across the Andover area are being invited to try one of the country’s fastest-growing sports for free this Bank Holiday weekend.
PIK Padel & Cafe, based at Grateley Business Park on Cholderton Road, near Andover, is holding a free Bank Holiday Padel Open Day this Sunday from 4pm until 7pm.
The venue, which has three indoor padel courts, is opening its doors to complete beginners as well as friends and family of existing players who may be curious to discover what the sport is all about.
No previous experience is needed and there is no need to bring any equipment, with rackets and balls being provided on the day.
Visitors can simply turn up at any point between 4pm and 7pm, with players being rotated on and off Court 1 throughout the afternoon.
Each group will get around 10 to 15 minutes on court, giving newcomers an opportunity to have a hit, pick up some of the basics and experience padel for themselves.
There is no need to book or create an account before attending. Although the event has been added to the Padel Mates platform to help spread the word, friends, families and other visitors can simply arrive on the day.
Organisers have stressed that the open day is not intended to be a full coaching session or court booking. Instead, it will be a relaxed introduction to the sport, with as many people as possible being given the chance to step onto the court.
The Bank Holiday event will not just be about the padel either, with a barbecue planned from 5pm.
The venue’s chef, Jordan, will be firing up the BBQ until food sells out, while the bar will also be open serving beers, wine, soft drinks and other refreshments.
PIK Padel describes itself as a small independent padel club focused on bringing people together through sport, with its indoor courts accompanied by food, drink and social areas.
The club is located at Units 4 & 5, Grateley Business Park, Cholderton Road, Palestine, Andover, Hampshire, SP11 8SH.
The free Padel Open Day takes place from 4pm until 7pm this Bank Holiday Sunday. No booking or previous experience is required and equipment will be provided.
Organisers are encouraging existing players to bring their friends and family along and give them their first taste of padel.
